Spring walk in Poltava
Poltava is a city of regional significance in Ukraine, the administrative center of Poltava region.

According to the first chronicle mention of the city, in the Old Russian Ipatiev Chronicle it is known under the name "Ltava". Modern Poltava comes from the name of the Ltava River, a right tributary of the Vorskla, (and later derived "Po-Ltava" i.e. Po Ltavi) that flowed through the Mazurovsky Ravine to Podil. The name is attributed to Slavic origin. At the beginning of the 20th century, the term "Spiritual Center of Ukraine" was also used for the city, which was facilitated by the activities of a whole galaxy of prominent figures of the clergy, culture and art, significant church and historical monuments. In addition, Poltava was the largest center of the development of Ukrainian culture and education at that time.

Poltava is located in the eastern part of Europe, 302 km east of Kyiv. Geographic coordinates: 49º 35' north latitude, 34º 33' east longitude, 140 m above sea level. The city is located on the Dnieper Lowland, on both banks of the Vorskla River. One of the river's tributaries, the Kolomak, flows into it within the city limits. Within the city limits there are several small natural lakes and many artificial ponds. The relief of the city is mostly even, at a distance of 1.5 km from the river there is a sharp descent (the right bank of the Vorskla, on which the city is located, is steeper, the height of the hills reaches 80-100 m relative to the river level). The geographical location of Poltava is quite favorable and over the course of history has significantly influenced the development of the city. The city is located on important transport routes and provides a connection between the largest cities of Ukraine - Kyiv, Kharkiv and Dnipro.
